Adzookie Will Pay Your Mortgage for Ads on Your House

Posted on April 7th, 2011

Hey check this out, it is a way to get your mortgage paid for an entire year. By Mark Hachman

Adzookie, a free advertising network for mobile devices, said Tuesday that the company will pay your mortgage if it can paint your house with an ad for the service.

The site is taking applications at its PaintMyHouse site.

Like Adzookie itself, the promotion is an ad, explained Mark Oskorus, the company’s vice president of marketing. The budget for the promotion is just $100,000, some of which will be used up in painting the houses with advertising and then repainting them their original colors when the customer opts out or the promotion ends.

Depending on what happens and how much business it brings back to the site, the promotion may be extended, Oskorus explained.

Adzookie is just one of a growing number of mobile ad networks. On

Countdown to Graduation: Nabbing Rec Letters

Posted on April 6th, 2011

I learned the importance of obtaining a good recommendation letter the hard way. After working for a professor for almost two years, I had helped him with academic research, class administration and lesson updates. When he was asked to teach executives in China, I got on the phone, helping him plan logistics and hotels (in Mandarin). Around graduation time, I felt confident that he would help me with references. Fast forward two years later when I visited his office to say hello: he started by calling me someone else’s name! On top of that, he had confused my background and interests with those of another student researcher.

So what  can you learn from my mistake? The best time to get a recommendation letter is now. You might say, “But Jean, I don’t even know what I need the recommendation letter for.” Yes, I completely agree. So, to solve that problem, here’s a gameplan:

  • Summarize yourself: Write down what you accomplished in the past and your desired jobs or fellowships in the future. Include an

Three States Move to Ban Foreclosure Sales From Appraisal Values

Posted on April 3rd, 2011

You have got to check this out.  http://www.dsnews.com/articles/three-states-move-to-ban-foreclosure-sales-from-appraisal-values-2011-03-30

If only more states would adopt the same agenda we would have less of a distressed economic recovery and allow for some to refinance at current values, reduce interest rates or to sell in an open market place.  We would have less and less people with bad credit and bad debt that is spiraling out of control.  More and more people without this help will find themselves further behind in bad debt from their mortgages and further in bad debt with the credit cards the have most likely been using to live on and to try and keep up with the mortgage until they got so far behind they could no longer keep up.

Even facing the prospect of foreclosure, people have been in their homes 2 and 3 years without a single payment.  Neither side willing and/or able to compromise on a solution that benefits all.  Ri

Don’t Beat Yourself Up About It!

Posted on April 3rd, 2011

Changing a financial habit is hard — whether you have a history of overspending on luxuries, losing track of account balances, racking up credit card debt or something else. Whatever bad habit you’re trying to change, its great that youve decided to work on it. Just know: there can be slip-ups. And they don’t mean your efforts are lost. Instead of beating yourself up about it, why not get back on track?

This actually just happened to me. My recent move ended up costing more than I thought. Then I put a new TV, couch and rug on my credit card, knowing I didn’t have that money in the bank and would have to pay it off (Doh)! A month later, that $1,400 balance is growing, and I’m kicking myself for getting off track. But, being debt-free is a goal I plan to stick to. So instead of deciding I’d already lost the battle, I sat down and made a new budget for the next few months that will allow me to put $400 per month toward the new debt. I plugged i

With Friends Like That…

Posted on April 3rd, 2011

As the old English proverb states, “With friends like these, who needs enemies?” If your girl (or guy) friends continually encourage you to spend your mortgage or rent money on that great Burberry raincoat or a week-end away in Las Vegas, you may need to find new friends. Their misguided advice, according to Gina Roberts-Grey on www.msnbc.com, “can quickly cause your credit score to careen downhill and your expenses to soar sky-high.”If, on the flip side, your best pal is the conservative voice of reason during these often difficult economic times, hang on for dear life and have him or her over for a nice dinner.Just like having a banana split can undermine a diet plan, this ‘economic cheating’ can wreak havoc with your budget plan. “’…The impact of those cheats is greater than you think and can prevent you from achieving the success you want,’” says Susan Hirshman, president of She LTD, a consulting firm focused on enhancing the financial literacy of women globally, and author of Does This Make My Assets Look Fat?Hirshman continues, “’If shopping is a big part of your friendship, leave your credit cards at home. This way you can only Read more…
