Posted on July 7th, 2010

New legislation for 2nd amendment rights is peering out from the left corner of Congress.  Hailing from gun-toting Ohio, Democratic Representative John Boccieri wants to make it harder for bankruptcy to claim your guns than from Charlton Heston’s cold dead hands.  Boccieri urged in an email blast with the headline, “**Supported by the National Rifle Association**”, and opines that it is a gross indignity that only ten states list guns as a bankruptcy exemption.  He wants more states to lists guns as an exemption, from the federal order on down.

Listing guns as a federal bankruptcy exemption is sure to outrage a fair share of Americans, not to mention the congressmen on Boccieri’s side of the aisle; indignant tax-payers should remember that the ultimate scope of this legislation will be narrow.  In the first place, only sixteen states and Washington, D.C. allow debto

Parents Pilfer Progeny Persona

Posted on June 29th, 2010

Warning to children of all ages: you do not need to have your computer hacked to have your identity stolen. Your parents are doing it from the comfort of their own living rooms.

In an article by Michelle Singletary in www.washingtonpost.com, “Some parents are stealing their kids’ identity and using it open up credit card accounts, take out loans or are putting utilities in their children’s names. I met a young woman whose mother took out thousands of dollars in student loans in her daughter’s name. The mother now can’t pay back the money so the daughter is left with the debt.”

Parents do this because they want to buy things they cannot afford or, for moms and dads who don’t have the funds for basics like utilities or food, they put the account under the name of their children.

In Blake Lewis’s article on www.cnnmoney.com, “For parents who’ve wrecked their own credit rating, cashing in on Junior’s clean financial history is increasingly tempting. Children

Increase credit score 100 points

Posted on February 22nd, 2010

That is my credit score which I can get from Alliant Credit Union on quarterly basis. As you can see I managed to increase credit score by 100 points … almost. The actual number is 70 but this is not the main point. The main story here is to show you how utilization rate, which is the ratio between revolving balance and revolving credit limit, affects your credit scores. With all the rest of my personal credit staying for the most part the same, I have managed to increase my credit score quite significantly. Not by 100 points but still, considering that by simply paying down Capital One credit card and thus lowering utilization rate, I gained 70 points is quite remarkable. June to December is just 6 months.

Even though it is Experian Advanced Risk Score 2.0 with the different range than that of FICO, you can play the same way and achieve very similar goal.
